Land Rover Safaris 4-21days Itineraries

Home Planet Exploration Land Rover safaris are the best way to see the most landscape and wildlife while on a visit to Tanzania. These safaris are designed around game viewing in the famous parks of Northern Tanzania, as well as some, wilderness excursions nearby. On safari we normally use a combination of lodge and tent camp accommodations.

Our Safaris include visits to ...

Tarangire National Park

An old elephant in the Tarangire.

Tarangire National Park is located to the south of the Ngorongoro Highlands and Serengeti ecosystems and is a smaller, yet more diverse environment. Highlights of Tarangire are its large elephant population (See photo at right) and shy greater kudu. Tarangire is part of what is called the Maasai Steppe, a broad high savanna which begins to the south of the distinct Rift Valley faulting found in and near Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Highlands. Next on the safari circuit we head west towards the wall of the Great Rift Valley and the shores of Lake Manyara.

Lake Manyara National Park

This small and unique national park is located on the edge of the Rift Valley’s escarpment wall. Lake Manyara is a soda lake, one of many in a long chain from northern Kenya to central Tanzania. This small park is unique. Its game concentration and location against the escarpment and lake make it an enjoyable and beautiful stop. From the valley floor the road switchbacks and climbs 5,000 ft. to the rainforest covered highlands.

Ngorongoro Crater National Park

Ngorongoro Crater and the surrounding Crater Highlands is a biosphere of rainforest, lush grass, cool temperatures and abundant wildlife. It has been called the eighth wonder of the natural world, and is now registered as a World Heritage Site. Ngorongoro is the largest caldera in the world measuring 12 miles in diameter and 2,000 feet deep. The crater floor is an oasis of life (Zebra on crater floor in photo below) and the central focus in the Crater Highlands. From this lush oasis we travel down onto the forested plains to the west en route to the outstretched horizons of the Serengeti.

Serengeti National Park

Sweeping west off the Ngorongoro Highlands are the immense Serengeti plains. Millions of years ago when the Crater Highlands where volcanically active, ash from eruptions deposited on what are today vast flatlands. A near treeless expanse of grasses growing from volcanic ash, the Serengeti is truly like no other place on Earth. This ecosystem holds the world’s largest concentration of animals. In the greener times of the year Dec-March the wildebeest migration is at its peak. No matter what time of year you visit and explore the Serengeti it is a fascinating and unforgettable experience in the wild expanse of Africa.

Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park is located on the rainforest covered southern flank of Mount Meru, the sister volcano of Kilimanjaro. It is an ideal "first" or "last" park as it is near the town of Arusha and Kilimanjaro International Airport. It is easily reached by Landrover, being two hours from town, and offers game viewing of all of the large mammals. It is possible to visit this national park in a one-day round trip from Arusha. The park is also equipped with a relaxing lodge right in its heart, known for its buffalo and gazelles roaming the grounds at night to feed. This small park is worth a visit.
